The year 2006 marks a significant transition period in the life of Church of the Nazarene in Trinidad and Tobago. On April 29, 2006, the District Assembly elected its fifth national District Superintendent, which brought to a close twenty years of leadership by our beloved District Superintendent Emeritus Rev. Dr. Clifford Manswell. These years were characterized by many successes and challenges inherent within an organization that has been solidly established over the years.

Whilst our successes in winning souls for Christ, developing leaders and planting new churches throughout the years are encouraging, we also saw a decline in all areas of the Church within the last ten years. The church is faced with rapid societal changes and it is important that the Church of the Nazarene be aware of both its current and future positions as a Spiritual force rising to the challenge of impacting its environment.

It is the heart’s desire of the District Advisory Board that the Church becomes a significant spiritual movement in the nation.  The Board has sought in this Strategic Plan to pause and reflect on the way it conducts the Lord’s business in the 21st century.

This five year plan for the period 2007-2011 focuses on initiatives by the District Superintendent and Advisory Board to develop a more effective way to carry out its mandate of the great commandment the great commission and St. Paul’s method of equipping the saints. “Hear, o Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.  And the second, like it, is this you shall love your neighbor as yourself’ (Mark 12:29-31). “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20). “For the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ” (Ephesians.4:12).

It is in the context of these scriptures that the church’s Strategic direction was crafted. It is the collective and comprehensive response to the need to charting its course toward the next millennium.
